Cornwall really comes alive in the summer months, with a great range of local events taking place. And no self-catering holiday in Cornwall in August is complete without sampling some of the most popular events. Here’s just some of our favourites…

  • Falmouth Week, August 5th-14th: This event has grown into the largest sailing regatta in the south west with more than 450 yachts racing over eight days, and a lively programme of shoreside events.
  • Boardmasters Music Festival, August 10th-14th: It needs little introduction! It has fast become one of the biggest music festivals on the calendar, with thousands of people coming to Cornwall each summer to see some huge acts. The festival also incorporates an extreme sports and surfing element too, with competitions held off Fistral Beach in Newquay.
  • Camelford Show, August 10th: This popular and traditional agricultural show includes dog shows, vintage vehicle collections, displays of cattle, sheep and horses, sheep shearing displays, a heavy horse show and much more.
  • Fowey Regatta, August 14th-20th: One of the best local regattas in the country,with a fun-filled week for all the family. Events include a midweek Carnival, Red Arrows display and a spectacular firework display over the harbour.
